Together we transform the lives of people with a range of conditions, including hearing impairment, Crohns disease, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, stroke, arthritis, and diabetes.About the role Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Head of is responsible for leading the Bionics Institute's IT team. The successful applicant will be accountable for the successful delivery of IT services and projects that meet the needs of the Institute: Providing leadership in all IT matters and being a trusted advisor to the executive leadership team. Overseeing IT operations and evaluating performance against agreed targets. Analysing departmental business requirements to determine their technology needs and delivering IT initiatives to address these requirements. Establishing IT policies and systems to support the implementation of the Bionics Institute's strategies. Supporting and developing members of the IT Team.
This position description is a guide to the role and responsibilities that are required of this position. Other duties may be required to be undertaken from time to time. This position may involve limited work-related travel to visit stakeholders or attend meetings, including working across BI's three offices in Fitzroy and East Melbourne. This will include high level written and oral communication skills, the ability to present visual and audio material effectively and to interpret information for communication with a variety of audiences. Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs at an advanced level. Key responsibilities Provide strategic leadership, management, advice, and guidance across the portfolio of IT systems. Define and manage the enterprise architecture based on current and future requirements. Drive innovation for core business operations by recommending viable technologies. Manage the provision of IT services, and a portfolio of technology projects within cost, scope, and schedule constraints, to deliver a seamless, high performing IT . Develop IT key performance indicators and SLAs that will meet the requirement of stakeholders. Identify and manage IT risks and ensure governance frameworks and reporting systems are in place to deliver IT services and projects that meet requirements, are within budget and on-time. Work in collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders to deliver IT solutions that enhance the Institute's capability and increase end user satisfaction. Identify key skills gaps within IT and work to close these gaps. Identify and manage external vendors in the delivery of contracted work. Manage effective security measures to minimise risks to security. Guide, mentor and manage team members to maximise their contribution to effective service delivery. Manage and control IT expenditure to ensure it is transparent and maintained within agreed budgets. Ensure compliance with Information Security and other relevant IT policies. Ensure the organisation has a suitable disaster recovery policy and adequate contingency plans. Enable process efficiency of back-office operations. Core Competencies for the Role Task complexity - Advanced Original development and exploration of solutions to achieve goals. Application of new concepts and or technologies. Knowledge required - Extensive Ability to generate and use high level theoretical and applied knowledge. Often requires knowledge of external environment such as relevant legislation and or government policies. Level of supervision and independence - Generally unguided This is a senior position within the Institute. As such, the incumbent is expected to show a high level of initiative and to work autonomously while in close consultation with internal stakeholders and external suppliers. Leading and supporting other members of the IT Team is a critical aspect of the role. Problem solving and judgement - Uncharted The incumbent is responsible for reviewing and developing their role and is expected to have the ability to research and recommend effective solutions to problems. Technical issues should be solved with a high level of independence, initiative and creativity. The incumbent is required to exercise sound judgement and critical thinking in areas of their expertise. Organisational relationships and impact - Proficient The incumbent will work closely with the executive leadership team and lead researchers as well as the members of the IT team. They will be responsible for providing strategic IT advice and will be expected to demonstrate sound judgement in developing innovative solutions to problems as well as making decisions independently. Tertiary qualification in IT, , or a related field. 7 - 10+ years of management experience in an IT environment Demonstrated experience raising the effectiveness of IT within an organisation A sound knowledge and track record in the application of ITIL principles A demonstrated understanding of currently available technical applications, with solid comprehension of those to come Strong knowledge of project management principles Experience in analysis, implementation and evaluation of IT infrastructure and systems Proven financial skills including experience effectively managing forecasting and budgeting processes to get high quality IT service on or under budget Experience in, managing and developing, a team of IT professionals Experience in applying diligent supplier selection practices and managing suppliers to agreed time, cost, and quality commitments Excellent communication skills, both written & verbal, and excellent reading and comprehension skills
