Reporting to the Group Manager -Geotechnical , the role entails leading all geotechnical engineering tasks related to the cost-effective design and construction of reinforced and supported steep open pit slopes, retaining walls and structures in the mining environment at Newcrest's operating sites. This includes overseeing studies that support the company's growth strategy.This is a unique engineering opportunity unlike any other in mining. The scale and complexity of the projects you will be involved in are on a global level, demanding a leader in the field, an individual with substantial experience and involved with large complex projects. Who we’re looking forIn this role as Principal -Civil Geotechnical Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and developing the strategic capabilities of our organization for reinforced open pit slopes and retaining structures. As a senior authority in your field, you will provide professional guidance, advice, and expertise to ensure cost-effective, high standards in Civil geotechnical engineering practices for our mining operations.Collaborating closely with site teams and group technical SME’s you will play a crucial role in capability development, networking, mentoring, and coaching for our NML engineers. Our preferred candidate will be tertiary qualified in Civil Engineering/Chartered Engineering with hands on experience with the technical design of anchor and piling systems. Youwill be a strong communicator capable of delivering significant and complex projects whilst leading and motivating team performance and providing professional guidance to engineers.The following will also be looked upon favourably: Experience in ground investigations to inform anchor and piling requirements Numerical modelling to inform design requirements Experience leading teams and mentoring Demonstrated ability to manage clients and stakeholders This role would be ideally suited to someone who led both practical and strategic aspects of the large complex projects, with a combination of hands-on operational skills and a consulting mindset.
